Most Experienced DJ in Pittsburgh
Experience is the most important thing when it comes to being a DJ. It doesn't matter how many years you have been a DJ, but more importantly how many events have you performed and in what variety. Proper professional training is also essential for any DJ who is trying to make it into his career.
I've been a DJ now for over 10 years and this journey has taken me to a point of confidence that makes me know that I can excel in any situation. Here's a look at why I'm not the oldest DJ in Pittsburgh, but sure am the most experienced.
When I first started as a DJ, at age 17, I didn't know any DJs at all. I was simply a kid with a dream. So I bought some used turntables, a mixer, some records, and hooked it all up to my home stereo system. My mom quickly bought me a pair of headphones to use instead of the speakers. I still laugh to this day when I think about that. Anyways, I went on the internet and downloaded some DJ tutorials on how to "beat mix" which is matching the beats of 2 songs together and blending them into a transition from the first song to the second. I practiced this for awhile until I was good enough to go into public. I then started to DJ for local bars and fraternities at IUP. From there I got hired by Club Zoo, which to today is still one of the biggest under 21 clubs on the east coast. I then got recuited to work at Matrix Night Club and that's when the real training began.
Through Matrix I was lucky enough to work with some of the best DJs in country over several different projects. I learned different DJ skill sets, over 20 different genres of music programming, and most importantly how to work a crowd. 2 of these DJs who helped me were DJ Jan Jursa and DJ Digital Dave. We still work together on various projects to this day.
- Over 2000 Events Performed
I never turn down an event, simply because this is my passion. I once worked 13 events in 14 days and loved every minute of it. From rocking crowds in over 20 different night clubs to the hundreds of elaborate weddings I've done around the Pittsburgh region, I've learned a few things along the way. Some DJs only work one type of an event, which means they are either a night club DJ or a wedding DJ... I'm the best of both worlds!
Keepin It Fresh
Even though I am a highly trained professional DJ, I continue to train on a daily basis. I typically DJ 3-4 events per week and practice new mixing techniques in my studio on my off days. Keeping my digital music library current is also a key task, so I use several different music charts to help track the next big hit. Most of this music is given to me for free from the record companies. I purchase all of my other music from Itunes. I also use several professional DJ remix services such as CrooklynClan.net, FullTiltRemix.com, Ultimix.com, X-Mix.com, and YourRemix.com.
